British Library Makes Classic Books Available Free In E-Book Format

The British Library has partnered with Microsoft to make 65,000 19th century novels, including works by such famous names as Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, available to amazon kindle users free of charge. This is the result of a three year project which has already seen some 20 million nineteenth century newspaper pages being made available. The e-books will include original illustrations and use a typeface which mimics the original to produce an antique style e-book (if that’s not a contradiction in terms). Users will be able to view illustrations, rotate the pages and zoom in using Microsoft’s “Turning The Pages” software.
